DISTRICT REPORTS. (From Our Own Correspondents.) Grcytown, April 15.—Dull and wet. Masterton, Apr.il 15-Colil and cloudy.

The death is announced of one of the early West Coast settlers, in the person of Mr. Harry Gordon, who died on Sunday, April 9, at Newbury, Palmorston North. Mr. Gordon, who formerly resided at Callagan's Gully,-, was 75 years of age. His wifo died a few weeks ago, and their only son some eight years ago.

Senior-Sergeant Dart, of the .police, who is known in Wellington, has entered into partnership with a legal firm in Christchurcli. Ho recently commenced to practise law at Methven (Cantorbury).

Mr. B. Lawson has been appointed to the position of secretary of Messrs. Lovin and Co., and in consequence.of his increased responsibilities ho has found it necessary to resign his connection with the Boy Scouts, to which organisation he lias rendered valuable assistance. He was Scoutmaster of the Kelburn Troop, and on Friday evening the troop held a gathering for the purpose of thanking him for past services. Scout Commissioner Baldwin, on behalf of tho troop, presented Mr. Lawson with a gold Scouts', badge of thanks. Commissioner Baldwin referred in warm terms to the time, energy, and means which Mr. Lawson had devoted to the movement.

Mr. F. P. Talboys, engineer and manager of tlio Wanganui Corporation Tramways, has been granted leave of absence three months on full pay, to enable him to enlist in the Aviation Corps. V. At the expiration of three months the position will be reconsidered. The Town Clerk (Mr. G. Murch) will act as manager of tlio tramways.

Major J. L. Sleeman, Royal Sussex Regiment, _ Assistant Director of Military Training in New Zealand, has returned to Wellington' after an exhaustive toiir of the Territorial Camps<' in various parts of New Zealand.' He leaves again to-day for another prolonged tour. During these tours he is imparting the latest teachings in modern warfare to the Territorial battalions.
