ROSENEATH SCHOOL
The annual ieport of the Roseneath School Committee to bo submitted to householders on Monday evening congratulates householders on the continued . progress of the school. The roll for libo year ended 1015 was 235, the average attendance 228, being an increase of 26 as compared with 1914. At'the annual examination 14 pupils gained proficiency certificates, and tlireo com« potency out of a class of eighteen pupils. Sevon pupils sat for the free place and scholarship examination and four gained free places. Quite recently the Education Board extended Roseneath's School boundary by including a portion of Hataitai. The school that is being erected in that district will remove many of the dis-' ccmforts experienced by the staff and pupils in the present Excellent work is also being done in this portion of tbe school district, and the average attendance is 54 out of a total of 6(j.' The interim Roll of Honour is kept' up to date, and now contains names of former pupils and teachers of the school. It is with deep feelings of regret that the committee have to record the death a> the Dardanelles of Messrs. Lance Bridge, Cyril Aston, and' Percy Harlen. Mr. William East is also reported as having been severely' wounded. ■ In view of the fact, that an outbreak of infantile paralysis occurred in New Zealand, ■' the committeo, with the assistance of the headmaster, did everything considered necessary- to remedy any matters that were likely to prove detrimental to' the health of the pupils. The provisions available for ventilating purposes in the 6chool are abundant, and are used to the best advantage. The school is disinfected, daily. [Sinoe the above was written it- was deemed advisable in the best interest of all concerned to olose for a week and have the school thoroughly fumigated.] The total amount raised by the school for the various patriotic funds in connection with the war is £450, which speaks well for the' untiring efforts of the headmaster and his staff and the patriotic spirit of/the residents in Roseneath school distriot.• The balance-sheet for the year ended December 31' shows a credit of £15'175. sd. NCAIO. In its fourth- annual report the Ngaio School Committee congratulates parents on the small amount of illness amongst the children during the year. The committee, owing to the, shortage of water during-the hot weather, wrote to the Borough _ Council urging that body to bring forward a schenio for' water supply in the near future, and has had a reply to the effect that the question is now receiving the attention of- the council. Following on the headmaster's remarks at the la6t annual meeting, the committee reports that it has been, able to. considerably enlarge the playground. The board, after being approached several- times by the chairman and headmaster, granted a subsidy of £37 towards the cost, which was made np to the total of £59 .125.. by_the. generosity of par/ants arid others interested in the welfare of the school. Though the school has made no combined effort in _aid of any war funds year, the various classes are all 'doing Red Cross work on sewing days, and thus the children are directly 'interested in 'and helping the men at the front. In conclusion, the committee thanks Mr. Clark and Jiis staff for the careful' and sympathetic work of tho past year. The inspector's roport showed a satisfactory condition in all the standards.
