MAGISTRATE'S COURT
TWO YEARS* IMPRISONMENT
Mr. D. G. A. Cooper, S.M., presided at yesterday's sitting of tlio MagisCourt. The list of cases for hearing was not a Jengthy one. Catherine jUalkin, who was convicted of committing an indecent act at Oriental Bay, was given a' very bad character by the police. On account of her previous convictions, she was declared to be an incorrigible rogue, and was sentenced to two years' imprisonment. Robert Dawson, who. it was alleged, was concerned with trie previous cused in the offence at Oriental Bay, elected to berried by a jury, and was remandod -until Wednesday next. SOLDIER IN THE DOCK. Wilfrid Gregor Gibson _ M'Kinnon, who appeared in the dock in khaki uniform, was charged: (1) With theft of £107 10s. at Feilding on April 29, 1915; (2) with forgery at Timaru oil February 12 last; and (3) with committing bigamy- at Otaki on March 31 last. On the oharge of theft he was remandrd to appear at Feilding on Wednesday next, and on each of the other chargos he was remanded until this day week. HAZARDS. Francis Bailey, who admitted that ha had indulged in a game of hazards at_ the Glasgow Wharf, was fined £2, tho alternative being seven days' imprison'men*. THEFT FROM A SHOP. An old offender, named Poter Butler, who was arrested immediately after ho had stolen a pair of boots from a shop in Cuba Street, was fined 205., and ordered to pay 4s. for witness's expenses. ' Default was fixed at seven clays' imprisonment. LAND AGENTS ACT. Joseph Godfrey Holdsworth, who failed to secure his land agent's liconse within a specified period, was fined £5, and ordered to pay Court costs, lis. The defendant admitted the breach of the Act, but stated that, he had since taken out the necessary license. 'A' WARNING. Susan Wilson pleaded guilty to a oharge of having entered licensed pro* mises during the ourreney of a prohibition order m force against her. She was convicted and ordered to come up for sentence when called upon, tlio Magistrate warning her that, unless she complied with the terms of the prohibition order, she would bo liable to be sent to the Inebriates' Home at Pakatoa. BY-LAWS, ETC. P. Girondes was fined £2, and ordered to pay Court cost?, 145., in connection with tho accumulation of oyster shells at Di'emises on Lanibton Quay. Breaches of the by-laws relating to the lighting of vehicles were proved niraiusfc Charles Ernest Easton and Ji. J. White (represented by Mr. H. E. Evans). Light penalties were imposed in each case. Percy Johnston and William Stuart were convicted of feeding horses in tlio street in a manner contrary to the City by-laws. Tn each case a fino of 55., with costs 75., was imposed. As the owner of three horses found wandering in Queen's Drive, Willio Evriost. Dalley was fined 10s.-, with Court costs 7s. On a charge of assaulting Harry ManseU on March 26, Henry Thomao
Downes was remanded until Monday. Bail was allowed in a porsonal bond of £10.
For failing to attend a parada of senior cadots, Artliur Douglas Wylio was convicted aud discharged, it being reported that his attendance at. subse. qitent parades had been satisfactory.
