OFFICERS' KIT ALLOWANCE
Sir, —Various accounts, usually in tho form of complaints, have come under my notice about officers' kit allowance. An olliccr of the lowest rank receives ton shillings a day and rations. He is allowed £25 by the department for equipment. In Tee Dominion of Bth instant it is/ stated that tho cost of kit is nearly £45, leaving a deficiency of £20. The additional pay in three months would more than cover that. Besides, the average man possesses many of the articles required. A maij enlisting is out- to fight for his King and country, not in search of a money, making' scheme. However, to look at it from a business point of view, the additional pay and pension of an officer makes it a sound proposition, and worthy a littlo sacrifice.—l am, etc., THOS. PRAGLEY. .
