_ A well-known Christchurch professional man caused a considerable commotion in au equally well-known city restaurant on Monday night by hurling a charge of Germanism against the proprietor, such charge bcingi quite without- provocation and equally destitute ,of foundation, says an exchange. The. restaurant-owner and his family all come of English and colonial stock, and his only son is at the present time serving with the British Navy. The trouble 'on Monday night happened quito ilnexpeotedly. The offender, who was with friends, had completed his supper, and was standing at the counter paying the amount of his check, when he suddenly took it into his head to become singularly offensive. "You're dirty Germans," ho declared, loud enough for all about to hear, "and I'll never coine inside the place again." As it . happened tho _ proprietor himself was away at tho time, only some of his womenfolk being ■ about. They were up in arms at once.- "What'a that you say?" asked ono of the daugli. ters. Tho charge was repeated coldlj and callously. What followed was sur. prising for the man in question. Tlk girl dealt him a sounding smack in the face, which knocked his spectacles off, and followed it up with so vigorous an onslaught that tho man was only too glad to retire. The matter has been placed in tho hands of ths police, j "Fore-warned, fore-armed." Baxter'q Lung Preserver prevents as well as remedies coughs, colds, soro throats, chest and bronchial, troubles.
