A farewell social evening ivas held in tho Karori Bowling Club's pavilion on Wednesday to bid good-bye to one of the members of the club, Mr. 6. Finlayson, who is leaving with the next Expeditionary Force for the front. The toast of "The King" was proposed'by the president (Mr. B. G. H, Burn); who then made a presentation to Mr. Finlayson of a revolver. Other members also spoke. Mr. Finlayson acknowledged the speaker's good wishes in suitable terms. Cheers were given for thp Allies and for the boys at the front, and the rest of the evening waa spent in a social manner. Mr. Finlaj;son is the first member of tha club leaving for the front. Tho annual meeting of the parishioners of St. Luke's (Anglican) Church, Greytown, was held in the schoolroom on Thursday evening. The Rev. A. I W. U. Compton presided. Tho usual reports were presented, and, were fairly satisfactory. The officers' elected were: —Vicar's churchwarden, Mr. W. H. Day; people's churchwarden, Mr. "W. Gales; vestry, Messrs. W. C. Davies, H. Dudding, A. E. Fletcher, M. and li. I l '. Knapp, W. A. Tate, and H. C. Trotman. Tho secretary of tho Petone Easter Carnival (Mr. J. Toomath) reports v that arrangements are well in baud in connection with tho "Rosebud" display Word has been received from Mr. JI. G. Alpo (who will attempt a record walk 011 Easter Monday) to the effect that lie would etart from the G.1'.0. Wellington, at 10 a in., and arrive at the I'ctono recreation grounds at 11.10, wl/ich would break bin previous record by. five minutes. The post-card scliemo was rapidly gaining popularity, several replies from soldiers in camp having been received. Mr. Frank Robinson, cashier of tho Ai'clclihul Harbour Board, lias been granted leave of absence in order that ho may join the, New Zealand Forces. . Mr. S. Boreham, of Dunedin, has been elected to the executive of the Agricultural and Pastoral Workers' Assoclu- : tion. the hoadquarters of which are In Wellington.
