FOE LINERS DUE TO-DAT. v MR Four liners of a total tonnage of 24,856 M\ tons, are due to arrive in Wellington to- Kjj' day. From the South the Shaw-Savill S|| liners Arawa and lonic are coming, while tg] the Turakina is due from London, via KS Auckland. The fourth is the oil steamer fin Cyrcna, which arrived at Auckland last week from Singapore, and which left for Ml this port on Tuesday. The lonic and Arawa will berth at the Glasgow Wharf, the Cyrona at the Bailway Wharf, and tho Turakina will berth at the King's Wharf. EOTOEUA SAFELY AT HOME. Cabled advice received yesterday stated that the liner Rotorua which left Wellington on February 29, arrived safely at London on Wednesday, April 12. ' WIMMEEA FEOM MELBOUENE. I Tho Wimmera, from Melbourne and Ho- I bart, is expected to arrive at 6.30 o'clock this evening, and will herth at tho Queen's Wharf Mo. 1 north. There are 45 passongcra on board, and she has some 770 tons of cargo to discharge before proceeding south to-morrow. | II CUMBEELAND AT AUCKLAND. Tlio new F. and S. liner-Cuniberland-a sister ship to the new Devon, of the same line, which visited Wellington recently— I I arrived at Auckland from Liverpool, viar Australian ports, on Wednesday afternoon. The n«\v liner will visit Gisborne ||l and Napier before calling here on April 25. With a gross tonnage of 11,060 tons, the vessel was built by Messrs. W. Hamilton and Co., of GJasgow, and, like her sister ship, has the true cruiser type of stern. Tho by her on the voyage out was, curiously onough, almost' exactly \ the same as that put up by tho , Devon. EEMAKKABLE SHIPPING SALE. A remarkable shipping sale is reported in tho "Shipping World." The steamer Hovland, a vessel of 2996 tons gross, which was built at Sunderland in 1898 by Messrs. J. L. Thompson and Sons, has again changed hands. - She was formerly owned- /by Messrs. E. Nicholson and Sons, of Liverpool, who sold her tn August, 1910, for I £IS,CCO. She has just been resold for about . £11W)C0, and it is stated that she has now been fixed on time charter . for twelva e months at £9300 monthly. | A LUCKY SPECULATION. | "Shipping Illustrated" says:—"The eteo. | mer Carolyn four years ago ran on the 6 rocks, and was abandoned by the insurance E men as a 'constructive total loss.' A speculator nought the wreck for £300, and succeeded in floating it and making it seaworthy again, 'He has now sold the ves< sel for &i 9,400. Such is tho result of tho ! unprecedented present demand for ocean freight carriers." MESS-TABLE GOSSIP. Mr. Baggott, late of tho Waverley, has joined, the Eegulua as second mate, vice Mr. Tully. who has comb ashore. Mr. Lcvestam, ohief engineer of the Paloona, has rejoined his vessel. Jlr. O. Madden, of the Union' Company's sorvice, recently passed his examination at Melbourne for a master's certificate. The Government ship Amokura obtained the services of a- second engineer (in place of Mr. MacGrcgor, who was forced through illness, to go shore at tho Bluff), .and it is probable that the vessel will continue her journey to the southern islands to-day. The John, which did not put in an appearanco from south until last evening, will bo dispatched for Wanganui to-day. Sho is expected to return to thi6 port, on Saturday next, and will depart the same day for Oamaru, Timaru, and Dunedin. Messrs. Cable and Co. were the successful, tenderers for overhauling the Hinemoa, and arc proceeding with the work. Thero were two tenders submitted—Messrs. Cable and Co., £444, and Messrs. Ross, Jory, and Co., £520 10s. From Sydney, via Auckland and ports, the Wcstralia is due this morning, and will berth at No. 6 Queen's Wharf. She will proceed south tho same evening. The Karu, which is due from Grq'ymouth this afternoon, is listed to sail for New Plymouth on Monday. ' From Westport the Union Company's Konrato. is due on Saturday morning. Tho Kittawa, from the same, port/ is duo this morning with a full load of coal. Shortly before noon yesterday the Kamo nut in an appearance from Greymouth laden with coal. It is expected to dispatch the vessel on Saturday afternoon. The Tarawera, from south berthed at the wharf shortly after 3 o'clock yesterday afternoon, and departed north late last night. It, was expected that tho Kapuni end Mana, which have been bar-bound at Patea for some days, -would get, clear for Wellington yesterday. Should they turn up to-day they will be dispatched again in- the evening. The'Aorere was unable to enter the bar at Patea yesterday owing to the low water. . The mail ketch Kereru, which was severely damaged by fire at Auckland some ■ months back, has been purchased by Mr. Geo. Niccol. The ketch is at present receiving- an extensive overhaul at Auckland.
