KARORI SANITATION SCHEME
EXPLAINED BY 'WELLINGTON'S MAYOR. There was a large attendance of ratepayers at the public meeting held at Karori last evening to consider and discuss the proposed water and sanitation scheme. Mr. B. G. H. Burn, Mayor of Karori, presided, Mr. J. P. Luke,_ Mayor of Wellington, being the principal speaker. Mr. J. O'Shen, City Solicitor, and Mr. It. Tait, Acting-Town Clerk, were also present. The sanitation scheme for Karori has been made possible by the Act of 1915, which authorised the Wellington City Council to be the; constructing authority in carrying out the proposed works. The matter,, of submitting the scheme to the ratepayers is by. way\ of a- poll taken within_ the .area in which the now sanitation works will operate. Under the old Act it was necessary to hold a public meeting before a poll of this kind could be taken. Under the 1915 Act, however, a poll can be taken without such a course being adopted. Mr. Luke and the City authorities who accompanied him last evening went out for the purpose of laying tho, scheme before the ratepayers. After the Mayor of Wellington had spoken at length, and several ratepayers, including Messrs. J. M'Kenzie and T. Ward, had had various questions answered, there appeared to be a'perfect understanding about the whole matter between the Wellington City Council and the ratepayers of Karori. During the course of his remarks, Mr. Luke emphasised tho necessity of good sanitation, and the benefit the borough would gain by having such.a compre-' , hensive scheme as the one proposed. At the conclusion, a hearty .and unanimous vote of thanks was passed to Mr. Luke for visiting Karori and explaining tlip scheme.
