Present indications are for strong vnortherly winds, changing to westerly, northward of New Plymouth and Napier, and •westerly changing to southerly elsewhere. ' Expect, cloudy and boisterous conditions,: with rain generally and colder x weather following shortly. Barometer falling everywhere, but probably rising in the south after about twentyfour hours. The Rev.! John' H. Elliott, D.D., "was the guest at a business men's luncheon at tho Y.M.C.A. yesterday. Dr. Elliott,, who.is late president of tho Chap-man-Alexander Bible institute of Adelaide, has come to New Zealand at tho request of the Y.M.C.A. National Com- ! mittee, for the object of working among local associations and military camps. Mr. H. .W. Jierslcy presided over an attendance of twenty-live. Dr. Elliott spSke .along the lines of more definite organisation of church work, of which ho declared the basis was the value of personal touch with men. , Tho speaker gave instances of the great work which had been accomplished in America. Dr. Elliott spoke at Trentham Camp last evening, and will hold meetings of tho same character lit the camps to-night, 'Sunday, and Monday. He will address a mooting of, boys on Saturday evening in the Y.M.C.A., and a men's meeting will be held on Sunday. High routs wjll be the subject of discussion at' a general meeting of the Wellington Trades and Labour Council on Tuesday next. A particular case in connection with the above was quoted by a' well-known union secretary yesterday. ' A member of his union is in re-ceipt-of £2 12s. Gd. per week. ' He has i six children, ranging from the age of eleven years downwards, and a wife, to keep. Up till quito recently tho man was paying 15s. per _ week ' rent, and now his landlord has risen it to 17s ; Gd. That leaves the worker 355. per week, out of which he has to provide everything for his family, and himself. To-night's recruiting meeting will lie held at the Manners Street and Boulcott Street junction, commencing at 8 o'clock. The speakers will be: Ser-geant-Major J. .Dent and Messrs. Hi A. Wright, M.P., and 11. It. Martin, jun. Messrs. Abraham ana Williams, Ltd., announce that they will hold a stock sale at Waikauae on April 18. Messrs. Abraham and Williams, Ltd,, are receiving entries of cattle for their autumn cattle fair at Ekotaliuua tun April 29.
