FIRE AT LOWER HUTT

i Shortly after midday yesterday a fire broke out in a new six-roomed house in William' Street, Lower Butt, owned and occupied by Mr. Leslie Clarke. The outbreak occurred during the absence of the family] and although the fire brigade was remarkably prompt in reaching the scene, the flames had by then a good hold. The fire was, however,, confined to the back upstairs .portion, and was got under after considerable damage was done. The owner estimates his total loss to house and furniture to be about £700. The build- . ing was insured in the Northern Assurance! Office for £600,. and a risk of £200 was held over the furniture by the aamo company.
