UPPER HUTT COURT

A sitting of tlie Upper Hutt Court was held yesterday, _Mr. D. G. A. Cooper, S.M., presiding. For supplying liquor to a soldier, for consumption otherwise than on the. premises, Leslie James Batchelor was ; fined 405. ; with Vs. costs, in default seven days' imprisonment. Seven days'were allowed the defendant in which to pay the amount. For allowing a horse to wander on the public road, A. Nicol was convicted and ordered to pay costs amounting to 225. " Two girls, aged seven and four years, whose mother was destitute, were committed' to the St. Joseph's Orphanage, Upper Hutt. The police stated that a warrant had heen issued for the arrest of the father, but he could not be found.
