In spite of the war the deliveries of Dutch shipbuilding, yards for German account dnrinij 1915 were very considerable, Ktates an exchange. .Taking the year as a whole the Dutch yards were busier than the Germau shipbuilders themselves, owing to the fact that the latter wero so largely employed on ,-war orders that they had little 'leisure for commercial building, whereas the Dutch shipbuilders wero able to build more cheaply and. guarantee prompt delivery. Moreover, the shortage of labour from which the German yards suffered did not affect the Dutch builders. In the last few months of the year there 1 was a change in the situation, the ship- | builders, in Holland being so fully pro- i vidod with work, and prices having risen 1 to such an extent, that the Germans found it cheapcr to construct the smaller clat-ces of steamers av homo. Most of the vessels built in Holland for German account were tugs, power barges, and lighters for use on the Rhino and the western canals. ANNIE 1 LABSEN FULLY DTTE. The American schooner Annie Lawen, which had to put back to the Pacific Coast in December last whilst bound to Lyttelton, owing, to damago sustained, and which left again on February 10, is now fully due at the Bouthem port, and Bhould put in an appeaxanco at any time. The vessel has a full cargo of lumber to discharge, consigned to Thomas Drops* Ltd. OABNEGIE in fJOOK. The American scientific yacht Carnegie was plaqed in the Lyttelton dry dock on Monday for overhaul. Although the vessel was last in dock at Brooklyn, New York, about twelve months ago, and since that time lias accomplished many thousands of , miles, her hull, protected below the water, line by copper sheathing, was found to be 'completely free of'rihmne growth, etates .an exchange. Her coat of white point, too, seemed scarcely scratched, while, so far as a superficial examination showed, only one piece of copper sheathing was missing. The Carnegie's beautiful lines* and smart appearance showed to advantage on the blocks, and a large number of interested spectators visited the dock to view her. The vessel i 6 much deeper . than would be expected, 'and the large amount of top gear she carries explains her tendency to Toll in certain weather. It was expected that she would be floated out of dock yesterday. MESS-TABLE GOSSIP. Mr. # D. Kerr, chief engineer of the Storm, who 18 on holiday leave, is to rejoin his ship on Thursday, and Mr. W. Anderson, acting chief engineer, will transfer to the Oalm as chief. Mr. Patterson, late chief engineer of the Corinna, arrived by the Maori from Lyttelton to-day in order to join the Kit.tower in a similar capacity, Mr 11. Mr. F. ,W. Green, third officcr of the American exploration yacht Carnegie, left that -vessel at Lyttslton on Monday. He has been succeeded by Mr. -li. Laraen.
