BUTT COUNTY COUNCIL
Councillors M. Vv. Welch (chairman), J. Wakehani, W. Galloway, W. J. Howell, J. Whitemau, ami T. Edwards wore present at the monthly meeting of the Hutt County Council held yesterday morning. The chairman announced that no finality had been, reached concerning the proposed water main in Pitoitoi Street, Day's Bay, A petition was presented to tho council from sixteen of the permanent employees requesting a shilling per day extra wages, on account of nlie acute rise in the cost of living. Some discussion* ensued, and eventually it was decided to postpone further consideration of the matter until the" next meeting of tho council. Air. J. W. Cudby (Inspector of Works), reported that Muiigakotukutuku stream had encroached upon ' the road iu two places, in one case cutting out the whole width of the roadway. In tho other case only part of the roadway had been' washed away. He recommended, that a crate 20ft. long be put down in each case, and that the trees which had been the cause of diverting the course of the stream should he cut away. On making a thorough inspection (Si tho bridges and culverts on tho southern end of the Almtarawa Road, ho found that several old culverts wore in a very advanced state of decay, and to renew them with concrete pipes would necessitate an expenditure of £30. There were also three bridges that needed attention.- Mr. Cudby added that Plimmorton extension road had Been completed.
