General Monro recognises that the quantities of stores destroyed and abandoned were considerable, but the great aim was to save the men and tha guns and ammunition. They could not take risks; thus if evacuation were to bo completed it demanded good luck and skilled organisation. These were forthcoming in a marked degree in the hour of need. The arrangements made by General Birdwobd and his corps commanders could not have been surpassed. General Monro pays a tribute to the skill, competence, and courage of General Birdwood and hiß staff. The dispatch mentions the result of'the rain blizzard on November 21. There were 200 deaths from exposure and! 10,000 sick were evacuated, chiefly from Suvla. , General Monro will shortly furnish a distinguished conduct, list. The withdrawal From Serbia. * The dispatch covers the period from the commencement of the Serbian expedition to its withdrawal to Salonika, and shows that the 10th Division from Suvla was sent to support the French. When the French effort to link up with the Serbians had failed, the withdrawal was ordered, in accordance with previous arrangements made by the Allied Governments.
