TWO PKISONERS DEALT WITH.
■Two prisoners appeared before the Chief Justice (Sir Robert Stout) on Saturday to be sentenced. ' One was Cyrus Chas. Button, who had pleaded guilty to two charges of theft at Palmerston North. The charges were , that hp had stolen two magnetos, valued' at £30 each, one from Adolphus Bernard Sanders and the other from Herbert John Woodfield. Mr. T. M. Wilford included in liis plea for. prisoner a statement that he had offered bis services for the front.
On the first chargo, flutton was placed on probation for eighteen months, and on the second he was required to appear for sentence when called on. Also, lie; was ordered to make certain'•estitution.
Wm. Henry. -Thos. Mardon, who had pleaded guilty to a charge of failure to account for money he received for the' Public Works Department at Blenheim, tfas placed on probation for two years. 'Mr., A. W. Blair said that Mardon was .willing to enlist. .■'
