MR ASHMEAD BARTLETT

WITH THE ANZACS AT GALLIPOLI.

On Thursday and Saturday evenings next, at tho Town Hall, the famous war correspondent, Mr. Ashnicfld-Bartlott, will lecturo of tho Gallipoli campaign. Mr. Bartlett is well known to readers of this paper, which has published many of his articles connected with the doings of our men in the fighting line. He has just concluded a remaTkably successful Australian tour, and the interest m Ms New Zealand visit indicates a similar result. His lectures will deal principally with the Gallipoli campaign, in particular : the part played -bv the New Zealanders and ■Vustralians. As official representative of the British Press, he was accorded privileges which enabled him to witness the fi<dititlg at close quarters, and many of our returned soldiers testify to seeing Mr Bartlett in dangerous quarters witnessing various operations. The Sydney "Sun"' 1 says: "Mr. Ashmead-Bnrtlett is an attractive platform figure. He has a ready flow of words in :clear setinence, with fwo passages and striking images. The photograph on -his posters does not express the nervous energy that is in him." "I remember that chap at Gallipoli." Bill said yesterday- afternoon. ''We used to see him round tlie trenches' in a dirty old shirt." Tho dirty shirt w.as one of tho necessary conditions, of Gallipoli. Last night in the Town Hall tho lecturer was a correct young Englishman in evening dress, telling with earnest interest tho story of a great campaign." The Wellington season will be positively limited to two lectures, on account of tho New Zealand tour being hut a brief one, as Mr. Bartlett is due back to fulfil an engagement early in September on the Western front. The box plans are now available at the Bristol.
