SHORTAGE OF SHIPS
BEEF AND CHEESE MUST GO
NO SPACE FOR BUTTER
An important statement on tho subieto of shipping space for outward cargo Lo London was made by the Prime Minister 011 Saturday.
"The Imperial" Government," said Mr. Massey, "is asking us to give preference to beef and chcese as both aro required for the troops. The dairy season is now coming to an end, and a very largo proportioii of both butter and cheese has boon shipped, Cheese must go because it is required as a ration for the soldiers. So far as I can see most of the butter now in store will have to stay there for the present. In any case a large quantity is required for home consumption. "I will do my best to keep the flax industry going, in accordance with tho request of the deputation which waited upon me a few days ago, but I don't expect to be able to make any definite statement on the subject for a week «r two from now." .
