CITY SHORTAGE SLIGHTLY REDUCED
THE GENERAL POSITION
Wellington Oity and suburbs group is still 84 infantry short of its quota, for the 15th Reinifqxoements. The original shortage of 92 was roduced by eight yesterday through a small number of men responding to the call for men to come forward at once.
. The who went to camp were:— E E: Barlow, J. Evans, T. C. O'Rourke, W. G. Thomas, S. W. Kelson, C. Booth, J. A. Hey, J. Wright. The following recruits have been enrolled at Buckie Street as fit for active service:—
Edward Ernest Barlow, farm hand, Manaia (Infantry). Norman Leslie Elliott, tea blender, Citv (Infantry). -Norman Wm. Fly, clerk, Masterton (Infantry). . ' . , Harold Cecil . Raven, cabinetmaker, Citv (Infantry). .1 V Geo.. Hy. Bourke, bushman, City (Infantry). Chas. Booth, seaman, City (Infantry). James Wright, . seaman, City (Infantry). . ' Stanley Wm. Kelsen, cTieesemaker, City (Infantry). Walter Stratford Press, cutter, City (Infantry). • Defenoe Headquarters stated.-jester-'-'day that the Wellington Military District sent its men into camp this, month 268 short of the Required quota. The whole shortage is in infantry. The Bmnps of * the district were short as follows: — City and Suburbs. 107 Manawntu and Wanganui ... 53 Hawke's Bay and Poverty Bay ',- 38 ■Wairarapa 24 ■ Taranaki . 46 v ' '_- ' .268' ; . Also two infantry n.c.o.'s for the 17th . draft are needed. Canterbury expects to be 120 infantry short. Auckland reckons .on an infantry deficit, • and Otago, it is thought, is certain .to he in arrears.
