THE KING'S THEATOE. A house, filled in'-. all' parts, witnessed the screening of the "Famous Players" film depicting the famous daneense, Gaby Deslys, in an original and powerful Istage drama, "Her Triumph," at the: Kings Theatre, last night, The picture is : a most attractive one, presenting the noted beauty in a series of dramatic incidents, interpolated with 6ome of the dances that she has made famous in the Old World. The story is not mado -to suffer, but rather added to,-by the introductions of the "Dance des Apaches" and..the "Danoe Deslys." in which Mdlle. rjsstys has the able assistance of Harry Plicer, the well-known international dancer. Both of th«se r dances arc- splendid examples of the art that has made Gaby D<wlys.'fio popular. Mention should also bo made of the striking and often mag. Bificent frocks, and hats that Mdlle. Des]ts wears—and which' possibly only Mdlle. •Deslys . could wear. The picture .is undoubtedly a success. Other good mctures are shown,' including n clevei? Sidney Drew comedy, "How John. Came Home"; an Edison comedy-drama, .Tho Seventh Day," a splendidly-coloured scenic study, and the Pathe Gazette. There will be a matinee each day this .\veek, as well as the night screenings. ;-:.... HIS MAJESTY'S THEATEE. Judging -by the : 'number' of: patrons which'visited: His Majesty's Theatre last' evening this, week's new programme has become.." very popular', with Wellington theatre-goers. The new bill is one well worth seeing. .'From,-the', rise .of the curtain till its fall there is not a dull moment. Mr. AH. Holt again delighted the audience with his clover imitations.. He mimics birds and beasts-of the forest end animals on the~farm.... His efforts to. mimic a street dog fight, brought wellearned applause. By far the best turn of its kind that has been seen, here was 'the entertainment'given by Miss JNellie Black. and Miss ' Amy' ' Murphy. Both these, cultured singers and -pianists gave of their best, and Miss Black's p.aymg on tho violin was delightful. A very prettV and. gHcoful act.was supplied by De Baker's Models. They are a talented troupe ■of Belgian poseurs, and some of the groups formed by them were most artistic Delicacy was the keynote of their performance. •.'. The other artists who appeared were all' excellently' re. Teived. . '•-.;;; -. THE EMPRESS THEATRE. ' The noted stage comedy, "Mrs. Black is Back," which has been transformed to the screen by the'"Famous Players Co., is being shown at all sessions this week et the Empress Theatre. The.story as. unfolded in the picture is a, most laughable one, fairly bubbling over with mirthful situations, 'and enacted, by a most capaW* company, headed by th« popular '---and : plump—American ■ actress,. Miss. 'May Irwin, who, as the' unhappy -Mm Black, is the life .and soul. of-the pic-1 hire. The main situation is .an extremely awkward one for any woman, to* be placed ;in. After "fibbing" about her age and the.age of her son by her first mar-, riage.-she finds that her. second husband 'has a particular horror. of. lying, and the unf rtunate woman gets, deeper into the mire trying to cover, up the, first he—making for a most amusing that could be imagined,'without consorting to the "slap-stick method." ; Of distinct, merit also is the Western drama. The 'Assayer of Lone Gap" the : story, of a coward's bravery, and.the latest, Pathe Gazette completes an excellent programme..
•';• EVERYBODY'S THEATRE. ' A particularly fine, film by- the Edison Company• is being shown,at Everybody's Tkeatre'this week.. ',The title is-"G'adi-. Ola," and. the chief role is played by Miss Viola Dana, whose work is already well known in this City.; Some of the rural' farm scenes" are faithfully worked into the picture, and they, alone". are well worth .seeing. Thestory is one that anpeals more to the gentler sex, although it Fhonld not be missed by anyone who is fond'of a good motion-picture drama;. A film whichi..will create, great : interest at the present : time- is one ■'.depicting.'the : manufacture of shells and .ammunition for the big guns in England and. France. Thp'"Topical Bndg-et".Land .a' Pathe'colour.-. comedy,:. "Wiffles.. in... War.., Time" Complete the programme. . '( "I ; Harmonic society." ..,• On' Monday evening next..ln the Concert Chamber of the Town Hall; the Wellington Harmonio Society, under the conHuctorahip of Mr.' H. : Temnle White, will submit another 'of'its delightful . tm>grammes' of unaccompanied parti songs. Of the society's last concert we said "On its performance at the Concert Chamber last evening one can conscientiously say. that there is no chorus .in Welhneton ringing l -.with such expression as this.'*- . The box plan is now open at the Bristol,; where 2s. seats may be reserved without extra charge. .- . .-. ■ •■■'.) , .
