WOOLLEN MILL, DEADLOCK
PROSPECT OF A SETTLEMENT.
The Petone Woollen Mill trouble appeared up till yesterday' to have settled down into a hopeless' stonewall. . Yesterday, however, a gleam of hope appeared from 'behind the cloud of trouble, in the action of the Labour De; par|nient, which is taking its cue from tho recent important pronouncement in Wanganui of the Arbitration Court, which/advocatcß.no further settled' increases in pay, but sanctions a bonus of 10 per cent, on the wages of workers : receiving not more than £2 12s. weekly during the period of- the War. The Department," under the impression that the principle involved in the Auckland Building Trades' Labourers' Award mipjht form a basis of settlement, has summoned the representatives of the union arid-the directors of the Wellington Woollen Company to meet the Prifno Minister "(the Hon. W.,'F.'Misgey) at 4 o'clock this afternoon. That hour has been decided upon as Mr. Massey will not arrive here from Masterton until after mid-day.
