Mr. J. C. Williamson, who has been appointed to succeed Mr. Holdsworth as Chief Postmaster at Auckland, has beea chief clerk at the head office i»r several years past, and lias earned a reputation' for courtesy, tact, and efficiency in that post of responsibility. Ho was a wellknown member of the Kelburn Bowling Club, and was one of that club's best and most popular players. Tie has an able successor as chief clerk in Mr. A„ T. Markman, whose record in the service is a fine one,

Mr. Harry Tonks, son of the late Mr. George Tonks, and nephew of Messrs. Enoch and William Tonks, of Wellington, was found dead in bed. in Wanganui on Monday. Deceased, who was born' in this city 45 years' ago, has left a widow and one child. About a month ago he left for Wangamu to work in Messrs. Thomson and Lewis's cordial factory in that town. The cause of death, was heart failure.

Among the passengers by the Mararoa from Lyttelton yesterday morning were Mr. 0. Holdsworth, managing director, and Mr. D. A. Aitken, general manager, of the TJnion Steam Ship Company.

Mr. C. Tilleard Natusch, of Wellington, lias received a cablegram from hia son Stanley, stating that he has been promoted from the rank of sergeant to that of lieutenant. He enlisted on August 16, 1914, loft as a private with the Main Expeditionary Force, and has been continually on active service ever since. He took part in the famous landing at GallipohY and was present also at the evacuation of the SuvlaAnzac positions. Two of his brothers, .Guy and Cecil, are at present in camp with'the rank of lieutenant.

Father Price holds the rank of Chaplain of the Fourth Class in- the Now Zealand Territorial • Force. Mr. Thomas Crook, who died in.the Auckland Hospital on April 1, arrived in, Auckland in 1875. Mr. Crook, who at the time of his death was fc4 yearsi of age, was for many years in Christchurch. At one time, he visited the. various Maori schools, at the Government's request, giving lantern Ho resided with his son at Mount Eden, and leaves five sons Md wi daughters, and some7s grandchildren and great-grandchildren. The Kev. John H. Elliott, DD., who has been conducting the Australasian Chapman-Alexander Bible Institute in Adelaide, South Australia, amved in New Zealand by the Moeraki on Monday, and went south the same evening to hold a series of meetings in Chrlsv rhurch.
