ALLAN ST. ESTATE SALE
Messrs. Harcourt and Co. renort that there was a very large attendance at their auction rooms yesterday afternoon, when the subdivision of the Allan StreetEstate, Muritai, was to be submitted to auction, together with other sectionsin this suburb. The auctioneer upon entering the box mentioned that this land had been tied up in the deceased, estates of Allan Cameron, and, the present vendors, the mortgagees. ■ They had at last obtained the consent of the Court to realise their asset, when they were again baulked at the last moment by the action of the local authority. The auctioneer then read the following statement of the vendors:—"For over 'ton years the owners ami mortgages have paid rates on' sections fronting Allan Street on valuations based on the su])position that Allan Street is a public street. .Njnv, when we come to sell these sections, the Eastbourne Borough Council claims that the street is neither a public street nor a urivate street. After a lapse of- over 15 years it is not easy to collect the circumstances surrounding th.6 laying-off and dedication of the street, and in consequence the sale must bo postponed] to t later date, of which due notice will he givMi. In the meantime steps will b'a taken to ascertain whether the claims of the Enst.Kourno Borough Council are justified in law." The-, sale of the corner section 3, D.P. 199j-~h'avi"'ifs a frontage of 40ft. to the County Road, and o, frontage-of 132 ft. to Deverc Street,' was then proceeded with, and after spirited bidding was knocked down to Mr. Norman Clout for the sum of £100.
