The New South Wales State Commandant (Colonel Ramaciotti) was recently promoted to the rank of briga-dier-general. Colonel Ramaciotti, who is 55 years old, was born in Leghorn, Italy. Ho camo to Australia at an early ago, and in 1878 enlisted as a private at Rockhampton, Queensland.. Ho worked up through tho ranks to non-commissioned rank and obtained his commission in the Second Infantry Regiment, New South Walos, in 1890. He commanded a regiment in 1909.. 1913; was attached to the second battalion, Suffolk Regiment, at Aldorshot, 1911, and to tho goneral staff, of tha Italian manoeuvres in tho same 'year. He attended the English manoeuvres in '1913, and was detailed for the 1914 manoeuvres, which wero cancelled on account of tho war. Ho volunteered for active service in anv capaoity on tho day wax was declared, but was instructed by the War Office to return to Australia, his services being declined after eight weeks' waiting on account; of "bring too senior." He has worked with French and Italian troops, • and seen Dutch, Belgian, German, and Aus. trtnn troops at work. While in England Colonel Ramaciotti was made a colonel, and appointed to command tha 11th Infantry Brigado on July 1, 1914, Was appointed'president of "the com- s niittoo for examination of candidates for commission in the A.O.F. in Febru. nry, 1915, and in that capacity has pel* Isonally examined over 700' candidates. He was appointed A.Q.M.G. on August •I last, holding that Appointment con. teniporaiicoiisly with tho command of the 11th Brigade and presidency of Selection Board. Colonel Ramaciotti was managing clerk for Minter, S!mpson v and Company, and for seven years was a member of the theatrical firm of Williamson, Tallis, and Ramaciotti.
