APPEAL FOR THE BELGIANS
OUR DEBT OF HONOUR PITIFUL PLIGHT OF SLAVEDRIVEN PEOPLE By Telegraph—Eress Association—Copyright (Rec. March 30, 9.35 p.m.) Sydney, March 30. The newspapers are publishing a further lengthy cabled appeal) signed by tho Lord Mayor of London, on behalf of the National Committee for the Relief of Belgium and for assistance to the Belgians. It states that for over eighteen months more than seven' million defenceless civilians have suffered a degree of tyranny almost inconceivable, while maintaining a courageous passive resistance to the German occupation. Practically half the whole population of Belgium, through, no fault of its own, is now destitute, and live on pitiful rations. The appeal urges: "There is no debt of honour, or more pressing work, of humanity with a 6tronger claim, than the helping to keep together, body and soul, the men, -women, and children who ill spite of misery and privation, endure all things and loyally await.the coming of the Allies." Tlio appeal is made throughout the Empire.
