SPORTS AT FEATHERSTON
A! review of the Eleventh Reinforcements by His Excellency the Governor' was hpld at Trentham racecourse yestorday, in fine, cloudy weather. Colonel Allen (Minister of Defence), Colonel Gibboil (Chief of Staff), and Major Sleeman were also present, while the Camp Commandant, Colonel H. R. Potter, was accompanied by Lieutenant-Colonel Macdonald (Infantry Instructor), Captain Dovey (Camp Adjutant), and Captain Bell (Assistant Camp Adjutant). His Excellency wore the uniform of a colonel of the Rifle Brigade, and made a thorough inspection of the troops, who numbered about 2000, and were drawn up in the centre of the racecourse grounds. Afterwards, Lord Liverpool stood at the saluting base and took the salute, the Trentham Camp Band playing marching airs. ; General satisfaction was expressed with the Eleventh. They made a fine show, and their ceremonial drill and marching was considered to he excellent, though at times the band played rather too fast for the usual marching step. Sports at Featherston. Trentham Camp is not to be the only one to hold a big sports meeting at Easter. The Commandant of Featherston Camp'(Lieut.-Col. N. P. Adams) is arranging a similar sports carnival for the men in that camp, who number nearly i7OOO at present. There will, of course, be exchanges of men between the two camps before the meetings are held, but the men can now go into training for various ' events, knowing that they will be able to take part in one of the carnivals.
