His Excellency the Governor came up from Christcliurch yesterday to inspect the 11th Reinforcements at Trentham Camp, and to attend a meeting of the Executive.

Warrant Officer W. J. Kelly, of tlie enrolling office staff, Victoria Barracks, Sydney, has just received news that his Eon, Private W. J. Kelly, Ist Battaliou, has been'awarded the D.C.M.

Mr. S. Hodges, who for many years has been a member of the staff of Messrs, George and Kersley, Ltd., and latterly buyer for their soft furnishings department, has severed his connection with the firm in order to take up fresh duties in the country. On the eve of his departure his fellow employees presented him with a loather suit case and leather pocket wallet, and wished him the- heartiest good wishes for success and happiness in his" hew appointment.

Dr. Earp-Thomas, who has been on a six months' visit to Australia and Now Zealand, returns to-day by the Maitai en route to New York.

Mr. W. J. Lankshoar, of Wellington, roturned from a visit to England and Egypt by the Maitai yesterday. Mr. Will Pullman, the one mile champion skater of Australia, . who is at present in Wellington, has enlisted for service 'at the front.

Colonel Porter has returned from Gisborne, and left yesterday for Marl< borough to attend the annual reunion of the National Reserve, at Blenheim. Mr. A. It. Peiston lias presented to the Wairarapa Patriotic Society two sections of land in a good locality in Carterton, which are to be raffled in aid of the Wounded Soldiers' Fund.
