CHRISTMAS GIFTS TO THE BOYS AT THE FRONT.
Sir, —I am requested by a relative of mine on aclivo service, and at present I in .Egypt,' to give publicly an expression of thanks on his behalf and on behalf of scores of' his comrades in the same caso. Writing early in February, he tells mo that during the past six weeks tbey have received hundreds of gifts of all kinds from individual donors and associations of every description throughout Now Zealand, and that they have been quite unable _ to acknowledge tho receipt of the majority of these gifts. He further states that he and all the soluiers with him would like their acknowledgment and appreciation of the gifts which have been so welcome to them expressed in the papers of tho Dominion, and fn conformity with that request, and on their behalf, I now express their feelings to you, and 1 trust that this public expression of thanks will be copied other papers in the Dominion. In* some cases it appears that gifts havo Been sent to individual soldiers, and it has been found quite impossible to deliver' them: in such cases tho goods have been divided among the' men; but' in flio vast maiortjy of cases the boys have received the gifts sent personally, arid they aro anxious that tho people of New Zealand . shall know this, and know, too, how 'great a treat the gifts Rave'been to them, and how deeply they appreciate, tho love and thouglitfulness that prompted the givers.—l am, C. D. MORPETH.
