HEAVY FIGHTING IN THE NORTH
AMERICA AND THE PIRATES
The war news to-day is at once varied and interesting. There has been a big seaplane raid by a British squadron. - These, acting' in oohjunction with the light cruisers and destroyers, which conveyed them to 1 a rendezvous convenient for a descent on the airship stations in. Schleswig-Holstein, are stated to have accomplished their object, and in addition the warships have accounted for two German patrol ships. It" is f.eared that as the result of a collision one of the British destroyers, the Medusa, has been lost.. Sensational storfc are current of the sights and sounds of a big naval engagement, but for the present there is no official, evidence.- The torpedoing of tho Sussex by the German sea pirates bids fair to become a cause celebre, by reason of the fact that American citizens were on board. The German submarine war seems all at once to have reverted—if it had' ever departed, from it—its fprmer indiscriminate and callous murder of peaceful citizens on tho high seas, and, wo are told —this is all to announce that a close blockade of Britain has been "decided on. America and the other neutral States are on tho qui vivo. The Russian offensive in the north is slowly developing, while down in the Balkans the armies, which have been facing each other during the long winter months, now past, seem to be on the move, the latest news telling of offensive. Events on the Western frput ars maiuly routine in character. . ■. ■
