Mr. C. H. Ensor lias been elected president of the Canterbury A. and P. Association. Mr. "William Thompson, news editor of the "Montreal Star/' is visiting Auckland/ en route to Canada, after making a trip of the world, At "Wednesday's meeting of the' Canterbury Land Board at "Waimato. Mr. J. Sealy, 'the senior member of tlie board, addressed -the Commissioner for Crown Lands (Mr. C. R. Pollen), ana stated that as that would be the last meeting over which Mr. Pollen would preside, the members of the board felt that it was a proper moment to express their deep'regret at his retirement from the boa'rd. . During the years in which lie had presided over their counsels he had proved himself to be a most capable chairman, having the interests of the country at heart, and lie begged him to accept, on behalf of the members with whom lie hnd worked so loyally, a small token of their esteem. Mr. Sealy th,en presented Mr. Pollen with a rose bowl. Messrs. R. M'Cauley and T. Geo also referred to the tact and 'ability of' Mr. Pollen, and wished him all success, and prosperity. A private cable message has been received in Christcliurch statins that Lieut. L. D. Cottcrill, sth Berkshires, son of Mr. HenrjvCotteriil, of Christcliurch, has been awarded the Military Cross. Lieut. Cotterill was at Oxford University when the war broke out, and at once applied for a commission. He was gazetted 2nd lieutenant at the end of August, 1914, and was promoted to Ist lieutenant the following February. At Christ's College, of which school Lieut. Cotterill is an ex-pupil, the announcement was most cordially received, and the boys were granted a half-holiday in honour of the event, while the flags were flown to commemorate it. Miss Una Carter will lecture on "J?e(fitcst Dishes, Cakes, ami Luncheon Dislici"," at the Wellington Gas Co'.'s demonstration room to-morrow afternoon. Tlie demonstration will be repeated on Thursday, at 8 p.m., for the convenience of those unable to attend during the day. Messrs. J. H. Bethune ;md Co. will auction a section measuring 9 porches by 4-stlis of a perch, situated in Broom hedge Street, Wellington, at their rooms, tomorrow.
