BOWLS
' SEMI-FINAL PENNANT MATCH Wellington's defeat by Newtown on •, . leaves the winner ,of tlie Paonant competition between Victoria and Newtown. , 111 Saturday's game (postponed from tbo previous week) there . is no question whatever that the Newtown rinks . fairly outplayed Wellington. On paper the bowling "fan" would in several cases have plumped : for the Wellington team, whereas the Ecore (which is- the only thing ' that - , , counts) showed how easy it is to make , a wrong deduction. A curious feature . . about the game was that Newtown was down on the aggregate on its owr green, and very much -up on the Wellington _ green. On the latter green Hill's rink was the only one to hole its own and win. On paper Godfrey Magnus (Wellington) Had a stron; team; in practico it was "not in tin hunt" with Scott's men; The. gam< between Sexton (Newtown) and • Stil (Wellington) was.capitally contested al the way, and a good, game resulted be y tween Sievwriglit (Wellington) an< J7ylie (Newtown). Noble, who did so well, for Newtowi fa the Centre tournament, gave Gooder'i rink a_ sound beating, but both Browi and Webb scored heavily for Welling ton. The difference 111 the aggregati scores (for eight gamos) indicates i pretty even standard of play all round. The results were as follow:—. On- Wellington green: Newtown— Chittey, Popple, Ranson, A.'J.'Pollocl (s.), 22; Wellington—Tamblyn, Dixon Berry, Hill (a.), 2f Newtown—Manning Bedell, Leahy Scott (s.), 29; Wellington—Wylie, Ham ilton, Osborne, Magnus (s.), 13.
