SERIOUS ASSAULT
OLD MAN SEVERELY HANDLED. The-Manners Street police report that a serious assault on an elderly man was committed in Allen Street, off CouTrtenay Place, on Saturday night. s lt is alleged that the old man. liad been in the company of a much younger man during the eveningi, and that whilo they were in Allen Strcot the young man turned .011 his elderly acquaintance and violently assaulted him. In a while lie made off in a hurry, and as 110 went he .threw something away. This was picked up by another man, who discovered that it was a bank book denoting a very comfortablo credit balance.
The affair was reported tn the Manners Strcot police, and in a little whilo Constable Pcarso, acting 011 information received, arrested a jouug man 011 a charge of having committed the assault. Tho man who was assaulted is 62 years of age; arrested is 25. Tho victim of the affair is said to be considerably battered about. His eyes are both discoloured, und hie head and face arc said to bear ample evidence of the fra£.
