The anaual fixture of the Pahiatua Eacwg Club takes place next Wednesday, tie leading event of the afternoon being the I ahiatua Handicap, of 100 sovs., one mile and a quarter. First forfeits for the Doncaster Handicap and Sydney Cup must be declared by 4 p.m. to-day. At the same hour general entries close for the Australian Jockey Clubs Autumn meeting, which commences on April 22. Mr. E. Short, of Feilding, has recently purchased a colt by Demosthenes from Jean D'Arc. The youngster was bred by ■o. W. latham, owner of Orleans and Jean Laddo, both of whom are from Jean D Are., When Postillion arrived at Wanganui last week, ho was found to bo in a bad way, and A. Hall had to get the services of a veterinary surgeon for the black son of Advance. ■' At Awapuni, J. Farmer has an addition to his team in the. shape of a filly by I I inland from Pinery. The latter was very speedy over a short course, and if her progeny inherit her pace, they should win plenty of races. Farmer will soon be losing Glorify, as her owner has decided that 6ho is not to be persevered with. The two fillies imported from England a few months ago by Mr. G'. Fulton, one by Santry, from a Ixive Wisely mare, and the other by Minora from a daughter of Florizel 11, are to be brought to Eiccarton, to be placed in training by E. Longley. It is stated that at the recent Australian Cup meeting at Flemington, German members of the V.E.C. were politely requested not to enter the reserve set apart for members during the fixture. At latest advices Woorak and Maharajah were the horses mostly favoured for . the Doncaster Handicap. For the Sydney Cup the best favoured were St. tiarwyno and Eeputation. Patrobas, Ulva's Isle, and Carlita were next in order. Deviation, who was sold in February by Mr. W. E. Bidwill to a Dunedin owner, ■ won at his first time of asking for the I buyer. ' The brown, gelding was success- . ful in the Temuka Hack Handicap at the South Canterbury meeting on Saturday.' The first day's form at Washdyke worked out well on Saturday, when Eongahere scored in the Hurdles, and Marc Antony, who dead-heated with Findhorn on theopening day, scored in the Timaru Cup. The blac khorse has been expected to win a. good handicap for some time past, but; this was his first success in open company. Marc Antony is by Varco from Volodia, and he is likely to score again before the flat 6eason opens. C. Emerson, who won the Dunedin Cup on Eorke's Drift, has been offered the ride on the Calibre gelding in his Eajtov and Autumn Handicap engagements at Eiccarton. Eongahere, winner of both hurdle races at the TimarU' meeting, should have a successful career over hurdles, as ho is by Sarto, a winner over fences in Ireland, from Komuri, dam of Stone Ginger, a winner of both hurdles and steeplechase coursca.
