With jegard to the 'supply of brass and zino work, bricks and lime, chemicals, electrical supplies, explosives, general stores, iron-foundry, and painters' mai terial, the Finance Committee has recommended that authority be granted for all supplies under such headings to Be obtained by quotation - and authority granted for the acceptance of the tender of the firm making the lowest quotei in e'acn case. ' Tlie Mayor stated that the position had been thoroughly discussed with the engineer, who was"~of opinion that in the cases mentioned it was advisable in these times not to accept a straight-out tender. Several councillors thought that a tender for bricks and lime at least should be accepted, and it was agreed to discuss that matter in committee later. x
