SWIMMING
FIFTY YARDS RACE FOR BOYS. ■Mr. W. Lewis, who is taking an active part in the teaching of swimming I to the boys of Wellington at the Thorndon Baths conducted a .50 yards race for a small trophy at the baths last evening. There were about twenty..five starters, all this season's learners, and the race resulted as follows: —W. Cudby (2osec.), 1; lan Welch (losec.), 2; L. Curtis (255ec.),. 3. Cudby did the tfistance in 74sec. • , UNIT CHAMPIONSHIP OTP. Oni Saturday last, at the Thorndon Baths, tHe 14th Engineers won the Unit Championship Cup, which was presented to the Thorndon Club by Mr. J. F. Atkins, the conditions being that the winning team holds .the cup until challenged and beaten by another team. Two challenges were promptly coming, one being from the 11th Artillery Team and the other from'the 11th Engineers Team. ' The challenge race was swum at Thorncftm Baths last evening, and after a good contest, tho 11th Artillery Team, consisting of Messrs. Allen, Switzer, Clark, Boag, and Stubbs, succeeded in wresting the cup from. the 14th Engineers* Team } which was comprised ■of Messrs. Chapman, Paitry, Park, Nesbitt, and Bradley. . , It is probable that tho winning team -will be challenged for the cup at an early dato, when a further contest will be arranged by the Thorndon Club. Swimming prizes were presented at the Hutt District High School yesterday afternoon. Tho winners were:— Bo'vs: Jack Cross, 1; Jack Wagg, 2. Girls: Rosa Pelliam; 1; Louisa Pelham, 2. Mr; Fred Jenness was the donor of the first prizes.
