1 RANGITIKEI MEETING EL GALLO WINS BIG HANDICAP. By Telegraph— (Spccial Correspondent.) Marton, March 23. For the second day of' the Kangitikei meeting tho weather was line, and the course perfect. There was a good attendanee. The totalisator handled JjM,32O, against X' 12,100 on' tho same day last year. The total for the'' meeting was <£29,001, against <£23,G59 for tlie corresponding meeting last jjear. Rewa Rewa and Y'ladineau were scratched for the Clifton Handicap, and Downlain, Interlude, Tyson, and Limpet were backed in that order. Mt. Victoria delayed the start considerably, and when The tapes went up Tyson was quickest to find his feet, and led by two lengths from tlio others, who were til a bunch. Downham and Limpet challenged -in the straight, but the leader held ■ his own, and in a great finish won by a head. Limpot was the same distance away in third place. .

• Coropot was the only withdrawal from the Rangitoto Hack Handicap, for which Pa-raoa was a good favourite, and ho scored easily from an outsider in Durane. with Vladiueau, Ticino, and Tiora following in that order. Whisperer got off badly, which extinguished her chance, ■IV stipendiary steward questioned some bumping which occurred just after the sfart, but no action was taken, it being considered accidental.

Austin was regarded, as likely to irnprove considerably with his first race, and to-day he started a better favourite fhan Queen's Post. Tho pair fniished first and second, and the former always looked a winner. The way was., paved for him by several. of the fences being knocked down. Bivouac led for a mile, but (lien tired, and finished last. Portland Lady and Scorch were also prominent, and finished jnst behind the placed horses.

Penniless was always favourite in tho Meiden Handicap, and taking charge from Silver Webb nt the straight entrance, he won easily., Kukri was.third, and then came Hsstie.

Crawford was a good favourite in the big handicap, but after running well to the distance Square Dear and El Gallo Pissed him, and in a good finish tho Great Northern winner won by a neck, with Crawford two lengths away, and Byron nest. The early running was made bv Byron, with Lady Nolan and Princess Moutoa handy, but" the last named was hampered by going on the leader's heels a couple of times. \ Zola, Scrutineer. and.Dood were evenly backed in. the Hack Welter Handicap.' At tho start' Melodist jumped out well, and led down the bock and into the straight, but here Zola no past him, as did. Scrutineer, and they finished in that order. The winner is only a three-, ywr-old, and this performance in winning under 9st, 121b. was a good one. Scrutineer got ft bad run. And so diu Dood. . Waioture;was the only withdrawal. f'.Triform, who ha« been racing below form for a long time, scored nicely in the Raumai Wolter Handicap. Bell had him in behind the field to the home turn, where he .came round, aiul in a close finish just beat Patronale, while a good favourite in Ineuroi was close up. Black Ada, Veto, and Black Lupin finished in that order. The favourite, Coropet, scored in'tho Farewell Hack Scurry. The start ivas not a. good .one, and -Madame Ristori had - a lead of 'several'lengths approaching the turn, but she tired to nothing, and the favourite-itook charge in the straight. Ho had to be ridden out to slave off StarongQ, who finished welL: Moutoa Queen was close up.
