WELLINGTON DISTRICT REPORT
Yesterday the Public Health Department stated that they had been notified of five more cases of infantile paralysis in the "Wellington Health District. ■ The new cases were reported from the following towns: — Gisborne • 2 Hastings ■ ; 1 Norsewood 1 Pahiatua j.... 1 CITY PRECAUTIONS DISINFECTING PICTURE THEATRES The By-laws Committee proposed to the Wellington City Council last evening that, as recommended by the Public Health Department, a condition ho attached to the license of each- picture theatre as follows:— « "That the floors be washed out daily, and all woodwork and floors to be cleansed at least once a week with an approved disinfectant, as may be required from time to time by the Public ' Health Department."
Councillor J. Fuller suggested that the washing out should be done once a week, or "when requested." Every day would' be "over the odds." He moved an amendment to that effect.
Councillor J. Hutclieson seconded. Once daily would be unnecessary, and therefore unreasonable. Also, daily washing would mean that tho floors would be always damp.
Councillor Luckie suggested twice a week.
' Councillor Fuller said he would accept that suggestion.
Councillor M'Kenzio: This is just like the Health Department. Why 'single out' picture theatres ? Why not schools and other places? • Councillor Veitch: Why only picture theatres? There are other theatres.
Councillor' Luckie said the others were' not used* for such long stretches every dav. > ■
Finally it was resolved that all woodWork and floors of picture .theatres should be disinfected and cleaned at Teast once a week, and at such, other intervals as required. ''
Councillor A. It. Atkinson: This has to be made: a by-law to be effective, I suppose? ' . >
