Many years before "Gott strafe England" .was invented as the German national prayer, one of tlie German national 'anthems, "Heil dir im Siegerkranz" (Hail Thee iiu Victor's Wreath); was set to the musio of the British National Anthem, • "God Save the King." That celebrated melody by Henry Carey (which is, of course, also the music of one of the United States, anthems, "Amerioa"),' is apparently no longer to. be sung to "Heil dir' im Sicgerkranz." A singer at the Royal Saxon Opera in Dresden, named Scheidcmantel, has just composed a new score for the anthem, and it is now being introduced with great'success at patriotic _ concerts. Critcs note 'hat the "Kaiser motif" has been especially emphasised k Herr Scheidemantei's setting, with resounding notes for the passages reading "Ruler of tho Fatherland" and "Hail Thee, Kaiser."'
