MAORI STILL TIED UP
EIGHT FIREMEN SHORT.
The ferry steamer Maori still remains tied up at her berth at tho Queen's Wharf. It was anticipated that* the required number of; firemen would come, forward yesterday to Mill the places, of those who went ashore on Iriday afternoon, but up till last night the vessel's stokehold crew was still. eight firemen short. As a precaution the Union Company dotained tho Pateena, which was to sail at midday yesterday for Picton and Nelson and she was dispatched t-o Lyttelton in place of the Maori last night.' The Mapourika has been temporarily -withdrawn from the West Coast run, and she sailed for Pioton and Nelson last evening in place of the Pateena. As w 'iH be seen by the following figures there is far from a shortage of firemen in Wellington at present. Up till 4 o clock yesterday afternoon five firemen had signed on the Mapourika, six joined the ICaramu, three joined the " a verier, and the Kittawa and Ka.ru each obtained ono .without difficulty
