BOWLS
PENNANT MATCH RESULTS
YHMIA DEFEATS FETOfIE
Tlie pennant matches arranged for Saturday afternoon wore those between the- Wellington and Newtown Clubs and the Potone and Victoria Clubs, who are all level in tiib competition. The better games were played, but the match between the Newtown and Wollhigtou clubs did not take place, the Newtown Club giving as tho reason that its green Was not tit for play owing to the rain. It was true light lain did tall on Friday, night, and early on Saturday morning, but there, was no rain to speak of after 10 a.m., and the greens were quite playable, though not so keen as they Lavo beau of late, owing to the muchneeded rain'. The action.of the Newtown Club in refusing to play caused a good deal of comment on tho Wellington Club's green on .Saturday, when somo exciting gamos 'were played between tlie pennant teams. It is possible that moro may be heard ol the matter later. In any. case, it seems to bo a fitting occasion to determine whether a>club Ins any right to postpone a set centre fixture. If such is tho case, a complication may. arise at any time.
