SHARP FIGHT WITH THE TURKS NEAR ADEN

On tlie Verdun front the failure of German attacks on the French positions west of the Meuse has been followed by a similar failure east of the river. -Five assaults,made in great strength on the village and fort of Yaux were broken by the -French artillery and machinegun fire, and repulsed with slaughter. A Socialist deputy has mooted a proposal in the Italian Chamber for the creation of a National Government. It is said'that the proposal was favourably, received. The "Riissky Invalid" predicts a general advance of the Russian armies in the near future. They are not lacking, it declares, in material for a complete and crushing victory. A speech by Dr. Liebnecht precipitated an angry and disorderly scene in the Prussian Diet. The "Cologne Gazette," a German semi-official organ, makes anxious and somewhat unconvincing efforts to explain the incident away, incidentally denouncing Dr. Liebnecht as of our enemies."
