The Rt. Hon. W. F. Massey, Prime lUinistor, left for Auckland last night.

The Hon. Sir Francis Bell returned to Wellington on Saturday, after conducting a successful recruiting tour through tho North Auckland district.

Tho Hon. Dr. M'Nab sets out from 'Auckland to-day to inspect the lower reaches of the Waikato Eivor, with the object of collecting information as to the extent to which this great river is navigable. He returns to Wellington on Wednesday.

The Hon. TV. D. S. Mac Donald is in Christchurch to-day. He goes overland to Hokitika to-morrow' to attend the A. and P. show there.

His Honour Mr. Justice Cooper-arriv-ed from Auckland by the Main Trunk express yesterday morning.

Dr. Cleary (Roman Catholic Bishop of Auckland) intends to leave Auckland to-morrow, accompanied by Father P. S. Kehoe. During Bishop Cleary's absence the Auckland diocese will be in charge of Monsignor Mahoney.of OneDr. Cleary will visit Honolulu, Sari Frauoisco, Now York, the British Isles, and hopes to reach Rome about next June. • .

Private advice has been received in Christchurch that Lieutenant-Colonel A. B. Charters has been appointed to the command of Jhe Otago Infantry Battalion, "at the front." Colonel Charters did good work as base commandant in Egypt, and his services as such were recognised by his being mentioned in dispatches. He is a son of Mr. W. W. Charters, of Messrs. Kinsey and Co., shipping agents, of Christchurch, and.when he joined the Second Reinforcements he was an inspector under the Wellington Education Board. \
