"CRIBS" ENCOURAGED

SCIENTIST'S ATTITUDE TO THE CLASSICS. "I should encourage every boy to use a 'crjb,'" said Sir William Tildeu, speaking at the meeting of the Public School .Science Masters' Association at the London Day Training College recently. With a crib a, boy has a chance of understanding what an author means.-. Without it ho may fail to believe that there is any meaning in tho book whatever. "Boys used to be severely punished for using cribs," Sir William went on, addressing the masters, who were assembled to urge tho claims of science:'as against dull classics, cribs, nnd the resultant cane. Sir William Tilden believed that if boys- were enabled to understand'what was taught to them at school, and if the public would realise the great practical ' value of scientific knowledge, science masters might look forward to greater encouragement in their work.
