. DEVELOPING AN ASSET. , 1 'j By Telegraph—Press Association. Auckland, March 15. The returns for tho year in connection with the Auckland oyster beds show a profit of £1250. The Minister of Marine (Dr. M'Nab) stated that tho Department was proposing to oxtend beds in the Dominion It was intended to plant Auckland oysters on rocks in Queen Charlotte Sound, in order, to as..they could be transplanted from one parts>of New Zealand to another. Dr. M'Nab said it was also hoped to extend the oyster beds in the north, and he was looking* forward to the oyster trade supplying the Department with funds to carry out many new schemes in connection with the Fisheries Department.
When asked if anything was being done by the Department as the result of the. report and recommendations supplied by Professor Prince, Chief of the Canadian Fisheries Department, tho Minister of Marine stated that .the recommendations had not been gone into comprehensively; He said he was -following .the linos of the professor's report without adopting the whole of hia recommendations. The question of finance was tho chief consideration. In regard to the matter of cheap transit of fish, and tile work which involved no great expense,', the Department was adopting Professor Prince's suggestions. Other matters would receive attention after the war.
