RECRUITING IN CANADA
OPPOSITIONISTS HISSED „ By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright ("Times" and. Sydney "Sun" Services.) London, March 14. The "Times" correspondent at Toronto states that at a recruiting meeting Lord Shaugnessy (President of the Canadian Pacific Railway) opposed the raising of the Canadian Amiy by 50,000 men, on the grouudi of undue interference with agricultural, industrial, and financial affairs.
Sir Sam Hughes, Minister for /Defence, vigorously dissented. ' Another speaker proposed an antirecruiting resolution,' -which was greeted with hisses. The chairman ruled that it could not be moved.

The referendum on the liquor question was taken in a blizzard. ■ The wea« th«r! is making the vote light. The returns are incomplete, but so far the count indicates that Manitoba will probably go dry, with a majority of about three to two. The present figures show 40,0i0 for and 20,718 against. _ Every soldier polling favoured Prohibition;
