SUPREMACY OF THE AIR
MEANING OF THE EAST HERTS ELECTION • ' By Teioeraph—Press Association—Copyright ("Times" and Sydney "Sun!' Services.) London, March 13. The result of the Herbs election was a heavy reverse to the Government, who sent influential Unionists., and Liborals to support Mr. Henderson, while Mr. Billing had- no party organisation. His appeal was for more efficient defences against air raids and the sify for regaining the supremacy of the air.
The "Evening News" says the result of the election was a bombshell in Downing Street. It'is a plain warning that the country is weary of the indecision and inaction of the war machine.
[The East Herts rendered necessary by the resignation of Sir J. Rolleston, owing to ill health, resulted: Pemberton-Billing (tho ftvintor), 4590; Henderson (Coalitionist), 3559.]
