Mr. John Lee, inspector of permanent ways. To Kuifci, whose death was recently recorded, landed in Auckland in 1875, at tho age of 18, and joined the Government Railway Department the following year. He served in tho Kaipara district for several years, and was then transferred to To Awamutu, where ho remained for 12 years. On being promoted to the position of inspector of permanent ways, lie was transferred to Whangarei, and later--to Gore. From tho latter town he received promotion to Wellington, in charge of the Unit duplication works.. On the completion of this work he was to the To Kuitl acotion.
