PRESERVATIVES IN BUTTER.
Sir,—l was pleased to see that : "Mater" has drawn your attention to boracic acid in our food. _ Sausages we can very well do without in hot weather, but our daily consumption of, butter aEould be pure and unadulterated. May 1 lie permitted to ask the' Government to. have the Act amended, and instead of allowing; boracic acid to be put in our Sutter, a heavy line should be imposed for adulteration. Why it should have been allowed is rather a puzzla to me, as we were quite content with tfio fiealthy dash of salt in years gone by. ItT'Js only a year or two ago since our butter was condemned in' Canada, and, if I remember ■ rightly, returned to . New_ 'Kealand. If it is unwhole--some with boracic acid in.for Canada, ft certainly applies to us here; In (Jh'ristchurch some brands are stamped free from preservative. Is it not possfflie for us to have precauRon fn our city? ,'.Trusting the Prime Minister will do so met mug for us.—l iim, etc., ' S ANITAS.
