ATTACKS ON AN OFFICER
INQUIRY TO BE HELD
Some days ago it was announced that an officer of the Tenth Reinforcements had stayed in New Zealand to take steps to vindicate his character by taking legal action against certain persons who had impugned liis loyalty by suggesting that he was of German extraction, and therefore of German sympathies. The name of that officer was Lieutenant Alexander Hugh Griersou, of Auckland. The Prime Minister stated yesterday that arrangements were being made for the holding of a full and proper inquiry into the charges against Lieuteuant Grierson. It is understood that tlio inquiry will probably lje by Royal Commission, and that one of the reasons for this form of inquiry is_ that an investigation of this sort will permit of a more complete discovery of all the facts about the allegations and about_ Mr. Grierson than could bo readily achieved by Court proceedings. Tlio holding of this inquiry will not, of course, divest Mr. Grierson of any rights at law against his detractors which he may now have. 1 . ,
