A Press Association cable message from London, published on Wednesday, stated that Brigadier-General Richardson, ail artillery officer well known in New Zealand as a former officer of its Permanent Force, had arrived, in London to take up the post of military adviser to Sir Thomas Mackenzie, and to control tho members of the Now Zealand forces in Britain. "When asked as to Brigadier-General Richardson's actual status, the Hon. J. Allen, Minister of Defence, expressed surprise at the s?ress Association announcement (says the "New Zealand Herald"), seein"' that he had received no advice from either the War Office or the High Commissioner as to the appointment, though he had been expecting to hear, from them. "Since the matter lias been made public," said Mr. Allen, 1 may as we'll state that tho real facts are these: We came,to tho conclusion that a military advisor on bthalf of New Zealand to tho War Clfice—not to Sir Thomas Mackansne—was required. As some 0110 was also required to command tho Now. Zealand troops that are in England, we asked the War Office that it should release Brigadier-General Richardson from the command ho then held, 111 order that be mi"hfc tako up tho po;ii;.oil wo desired to fill I have had 110 reply from tho War Office to toy communication to them, nor from the High Commissioner although I have cabled for a second time, quite recently, asking for a repl.V."
