MAKARA COUNTY COUNCIL

Messrs. H. J. Monaghan (chairman), J. H. Haggerty, A. J. Taylor, J. A. Pyle, S. Bryant, and S. Hlonk wcro present at the monthly meeting of the Makura County Council, held yesterday. The statement of finances showed that the bank ©vordraft on February 10 stood at £1211 2s. 7d. There had been further drawings to the amount of £248 Us., and deposits made to the amount of £521 os. ild., making the overdraft on March 10 £938 13s. Bd. The Newlands lioad Account showed a credit of £24 Os. fid. It was decided: "That all bridges below the septic tank on the Ngaliauranga, Gorge Road requiring repairs should be immediately attended to. and that application be made to Mrs. L. Wall to quarry metal on her property at Paremata." Instructions are to be given to tho roadmen to light up' on April 1 until further notice. Members of the council aro to meet for the inspection of tho various works in tho Porirua Riding on Saturday, March' 25. The council decided: "That users of traction engines bo instructed that they must not use the water in the horsetroughs on the Ngahauranga Gorge Road for engine purposes." A letter was received from the Petone Borough Council drawing attention to an alleged nuisance on tho Hutt Road. Tho council suggested that, as this matter appeared to be beyond its jurisdiction, it be referred to the Public Health Department. Tho position of the council in this matter is that whilst tho. area complained of is within its boundaries, tho road has been vested in tho Hutt Road Board, and tho conn-' cil could accept no responsibility in the matter. It was decided to ask tho Health Department to report upon the septic tank of tho drainage system ■of tho Johnsonvillo Town Board. It was resolved that 10 por cent, additional bo added to all rates not paid before March 15.
